As an official communiqué of the Indian Society of Pediatric Dermatology, the Indian Journal of Paediatric Dermatology (IJPD) is committed to serve the profession by promoting good practices in pediatric dermatology through science, ethics, and professionalism in service to global population. In this approach, IJPD aims to drive excellence in practice, teaching, research, and provision of pediatric dermatology services to the population served.

In the previous 2 years, IJPD made several changes in the structure and processes of its editorial functionality. These changes included re-organization of the IJPD team, increasing editorial capacity, significantly strengthening the peer-review process, expanding the universe of authorship, re-thinking and improving content and content categorizing. During this phase, IJPD has also provided extensive guidance to authors about how to write scientific articles and structure-sound studies. We believe that these efforts are bearing fruits.

The IJPD has reached an important milestone. Recently, IJPD successfully applied for and was included in the Emerging Sources citation Index, a component of Web of Science (WoS). This is a benchmarking process and failure rates are high. Only journals conforming to the specific guidelines and meeting specific standards are included. The index WoS, a product of Clarivate Analytics is “the world's largest publisher-neutral citation index and research intelligence platform” as per their website and common scientific folklore. In its earlier version, WoS was known as web of Knowledge and was produced by the Institute for Scientific Information.

Inclusion in indices of repute is an important criterion for a journal to grow in stature and be taken seriously by all those who work in the discipline and related fields. Today, WoS is often used by various institutions globally as a repository of credible scientific information, and articles published in journals included in WoS play significant role as enhancing academic/professional credentials. For example, as per the current information (2020), the Indian Universities Grants Commission list of Journals includes only those journals that are included in Scopus, WoS, and Indian Citation Index. Therefore, the importance of IJPD being included in WoS is an extremely significant milestone in the growth of the journal. However, there are greater hills to climb and higher peaks to reach.

The IJPD is an open access journal published quarterly every year. The journal not only serves as a teaching vehicle for scientists and practicing dermatologists, but also strives to bring forward the latest scientific developments and management protocols in pediatric dermatology. The focus of IJPD is to advance collaborative research, evidence-based science, and encourage young dermatologists to publish original research, epidemiology studies, and variety of unusual dermatology case reports. The journal aims to move forward by promoting and publishing cutting-edge basic, clinical, and translational research directed toward better understanding and treatment of pediatric dermatoses.

I take this opportunity to thank all the editors in different capacity for their hard work, editorial board members for their guidance, editorial advisory board members, both national and international and editorial assistant for their support. It is my privilege to thank all the reviewers, contributors, subscribers, and readers of the journal for their selfless service to the journal. I am indebted to all the members of the publishing house, Wolters Kluwer-Medknow for their dedicated work and patronage for IJPD.

“Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection…;” IJPD is sailing in that direction. But we know “we have miles to go….”

With sincere thanks once again and best wishes to all.
